Today we share the results of a year-long audit and assessment of the current status of policies, procedures, and norms shaping the experiences of DU Teaching and Professional Faculty (TPF) in a White Paper authored by Resident Scholar for Teaching and Professional Faculty, Dr. Laura Sponsler. In 2015, the DU Faculty Senate and Board of Trustees created new lines and advancement/promotion guides for full time non-tenure track faculty. In the years since, faculty and administrators have made great strides to support TPF including implementing advancement and promotion policies and procedures, developing employment standards and multi-year contracts, and providing opportunities for leadership. Using a framework for faculty efforts to create respectful, inclusive cultures, the white paper highlights the strengths of DU in supporting TPF and offers recommendations to improve faculty culture for TPF.

Supporting Teaching and Professional Faculty: An Institutional Priority
Join Provost Clark, Vice Provost Willink, and Resident Scholar for Teaching and Professional Faculty (TPF) Laura Sponsler to discuss the findings and recommendations of the TPF White Paper: “Institutionalizing a Culture of Respect for Teaching and Professional Faculty.” Following a discussion of the paper and current trends in higher education, the session will feature a panel of TPF faculty and institutional leaders, including:

- Scott Leutenegger, Professor, Computer Science
- Paul Michalec, Clinical Professor, Curriculum and Instruction
- John Tiedemann, Teaching Associate Professor, University Writing Program
- Claude d’Estree, Teaching Professor, International Studies
Panelists will discuss the inception and evolution of these roles, highlight best practices, and share opportunities for growth and change to better support Teaching and Professional Faculty.
