On Wednesday, October 4th, 2023, 60 faculty and staff gathered for a Celebrating Teacher-Scholars lecture in Community Commons. Hosted by Provost Mary Clark, the first Celebrating Teacher-Scholars Lecture of 2023 featured Professor of Social Work and Founding Director of the LatinX Center, Deb Ortega.  Dr. Ortega’s talk titled, “It’s not ‘either or’…it’s ‘yes and’…” highlighted how teaching extends well beyond the classroom – it permeates the work of faculty more deeply than this. Dr. Ortega also discussed the importance of scholarship born out of teaching to advance disciplines. To view the full lecture, please go here. The second Teacher-Scholars Lecture will feature Dr. Steve Iona, Teaching Professor in the department of Physics and Astronomy and will be held on February 7th, 2024.
