Dear DU community members,
It is with great sadness that I write to share the news that Dr. Jodie Kreider, a Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor in History in the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (CAHSS), passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, September 17, 2023.
Dr. Kreider was a long-time member of the DU community, and taught over time as an adjunct faculty member, CAHSS lecturer, and Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor since 2005. Dr. Kreider also worked as a Special Instructor and, most recently, Associate Teaching Professor, in the Department of History at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Dr. Kreider earned an B.A. from Colorado State University, an M.A. in Teaching at Washington University in St. Louis, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Modern European History at the University of Arizona. She specialized in British History, with a specific focus on the role of women and gender in the development of both cultural and political Welsh nationalism in the 19th and 20th centuries.
She was a well-known mentor to many undergraduates, often inviting them to present alongside her at academic conferences, hosting social gatherings, and teaching innovative courses in popular culture. Dr. Kreider is remembered as an exceptional colleague, mentor, and teacher as well as a dear friend to many in the DU community.
Dr. Kreider’s family is planning to hold a memorial service to honor her memory on October 20, 2023 at the Evans Memorial Chapel on the DU campus. Please contact Jonathan Sciarcon, Associate Professor and Chair of the History Department, at jonathan.sciarcon@du.edu for more information.
Sincerely,
Jenn Bellamy
Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
