New Faculty Onboarding

Jul 19, 2021

We’re looking forward to welcoming new faculty to DU in 2021! For those starting this Fall, and faculty who started in the pandemic disrupted 2020-2021 year, we offer summer and early fall onboarding to complement the welcome offered by programs, departments, and colleges.. Throughout the summer, new faculty will receive sequenced letters from the Provost’s office, the Office of Teaching and Learning, the Office of Research & Sponsored Projects, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Library, Academic Affairs, and Faculty Senate. These letters connect new faculty to relevant programming and resources.

Alison Staudinger, the Director of Faculty Development & Career Advancement, held a relaxed, optional in-person meet-up for new faculty on July 21st, familiarizing new faculty with campus, each other, and expectations for teaching, research and service appropriate to their roles. Throughout August, new faculty have opportunities to join weekly “office hours” sessions with VPFA, OTL, and other colleagues. (Schedule here) We also will invite new faculty to consider OTL programming including advanced courses in online teaching and the course design institute. (Full calendar of OTL events here

Formal Orientation kicks off on Monday August 24th, from 8am-12pm in the Anderson Academic Commons Room 290, with an event featuring Provost Mary Clark; Senior Vice Provost for Research & Graduate Education, Dr. Corinne Lengsfeld; Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Jennifer Karas, and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, Kate Willink. This in-person onboarding event is an official welcome to new faculty and contains important information on thriving at DU in research, service, and teaching, in all faculty series.

Provost Mary Clark will also host a welcome lunch on September, 17 where new faculty are formally introduced to the campus community.
