On Monday March 29, we gathered to celebrate the Rebecca Chopp Grand Central Market and Chopp scholars. We share the Chancellor Emeritus Rebecca Chopp video in which Rebecca shares her vision and journey for the Community Commons, her notion of what an academic community can be, and the importance of having a place where we can benefit from serendipitous encounters, break bread together, and build new places of belonging.
Other exciting updates that come with this new beautiful space are a “social hour” up on the Fourth Story from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, which features free snacks with a full bar available. Post-pandemic, the Fourth Story will also feature daily lunch pitched at a sophisticated level to serve faculty, staff, and campus guests. Check out their amazing drink and food menu here.
Students have already discovered that the Starbucks in the Community Commons is open and full service. Hours are currently 7:00am – 10:00pm during the week and 10:00am – 10:00pm on the weekends. Stop by for all drinks ending in -atte, -ccino, and more!
Faculty can purchase two “block” meal plans, (50 or 10) or load their DU ID card with a flex account with funds to make purchasing meals on campus easier. Both block plans can be used by the cardholder or a guest. The 50-block plan, which includes 50 meals plus an additional $230 in meal plan cash, costs $671 and expires at the end of the quarter in which it was purchased. The 10-block meal plan includes 10 meals and expires yearly on June 30th. The DU flex account is an easy way to pay for meals on and off campus: it comes with an 18% discount for dining services, and funds roll over indefinitely. For more info or to purchase, please visit the ID card website. This is a more cost-effective way to get a quick and healthy bite to eat without leaving campus.
