Priority Deadline for Global Challenges and (in)action

February 24, 2023

Internationalization Summit, April 14, 2023

Global Challenges and (In)action: Examining the role of internationalization in higher education

Theme:

This event provides the university community, regional university colleagues and international partners with a forum to exchange ideas, experiences and strategies while considering the impact of internationalization of higher education in addressing or perpetuating global challenges. How do we move toward solving the challenges of poverty, hunger, clean energy, migrations, environmental sustainability and regeneration, economic prosperity, peace, and a host of inequalities?

Since institutions of higher education are knowledge and innovation hubs, it is imperative that these organizations and their constituents take seriously their role in social responsibility. Through collective efforts and equitable attention to global voices, higher education can help solve these pressing challenges.

One model for institutions to engage in social responsibility is the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 Agenda, a shared blueprint among 193 UN Member States dedicated to actively addressing global challenges.

Call:

We strongly encourage all members of the regional academic community including faculty, staff, graduate, and undergraduate students to consider submitting a proposal especially those pertaining to this year’s theme of Global Challenges and (in)action.

Sessions will highlight action on the local-global continuum as well as everyday work in the university –teaching, research, learning, and working with students and community – that contribute to the internationalization of higher education and intersects with the numerous challenges facing our world today. Proposals can come from diverse philosophies and perspectives including research-based, theoretical, dialogic, collaborative, practical/applied, experiential and action-oriented.

The priority deadline to submit is Friday February 24, 2023, though we will accept later submissions on a rolling basis.
